Assignment: Predict the 24 hr maximum temperature (deg F) for Avalon, CA (KAVX)
Avalon is a town on Santa Catalina Island, about 30 miles offshore from Los Angeles. Question: Surrounded by water with sea surface temperatures of about 60 F, how is it possible for the low and high temperatures to exceed the water temperature by 15 degrees? Shouldn't the cool water have the ability to moderate air temperatures more than that? Let's predict Wednesday's Tmax for Avalon. -- Ken
What Happened?
On Tuesday afternoon, the dew point in Avalon has reached as low as -7 F in the incredibly dry Santa Ana winds! Later in the evening, it went down to -13 F; that's amazing!
